About John
John grew up in Northwest New Jersey surrounded by ten acres of forest which fostered a deep interest in nature, wood, and creativity. While in High School John had a wood-shop teacher that nurtured his love and talent for woodworking into a passion for furniture making.
He then went on to study Art History and earned his B.A. from Rutgers University. From there, John attended Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine. Here he began studying the fundamentals of furniture making such as design, lumber selection, joinery, traditional hand skills, machine techniques, surface preparation and finishing, shop maintenance, and professional practices. After completing the program, John stayed on for both an assistantship and fellowship where he was exposed to dozens of mentors from around the world. This is when he learned the finer elements of design and complex construction techniques.
After returning to New Jersey, John became an apprentice at Eisenhardt Mills Inc. Here he was trained in traditional cabinet making. After 18 months he was awarded Journeymen status. As a Journeymen, his role included blueprint analysis, layout, material selection, construction, and finishing of individual cabinets as well as entire residential homes.
With over 26 years of experience, John’s passion for fine woodworking has never wavered.
